in Gannes film

CANNES, France - Angelina Jolie
faced the media yesterday to promote
her new film 'A Mighty Heart," which
premiered Monday night at the
Cannes Film Festival.
'I would hope that using celebrit5r
to make [films like 'A Mighty Heart']
- I wguld hope that's a help," said
the star of her decision to portray
Mariane Pearl. wife of slain Wall
Street Journal reporter Daniel
Pearl. in the fiIm.
Based on Mariane Pearl's mem-
oir of the same name, diiector
Michael Winterbottom's film fo-
cuses on the period. covering
Daniel Pearl's kidnapping and
eventual execution in Pakistan in
2002.

made impassioned pleas to Pakistani
and U.S. officials for Daniel's release.
Horrific footage of her husband's be-
heading was later aired on Web sites
and videotapes.
"Someone like Mariane has to be
handled so carefully,' Jolie, 31,
said, admitting that her own fame
often gets in the way of her work.
'I think sometimes the fact that I
am so public in other ways
could have hurt [the mov-
ie]. I was much more con-
scious of that. than confi.
dent in feeling it could help.
Following the film's en-
thusiastic reception, an
upbeat Jolie joked open-
ly about love interest
Brad Pitt, who produced
the film. "[Brad's] a real
ly good producer. But
also spent most of the
time in the hotel taking
care of [our] three kids,"
Jolie laughed. "So he's an
even befter father."
